Moose Hunts
Moose were not always found in the Bighorns. Eight moose were first transplanted from Jackson Hole in 1948 to an area southwest of Sheridan. Since then the moose population has risen along with the interest in hunting them.
The demand for a moose license in the Bighorns is high. Wyoming’s Shiras Moose population is carefully monitored and managed by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Licenses are issued on a limited quota. There is a lot of local interest in the licenses due in part to high success rates and high trophy potential. This interest makes the ability to draw very tough.
